Velkomnir til Hríseyjar
Akureyrarbær skrifaði undir samning um að taka þátt í samræmdi móttöku flóttafólks á árinu 2023 og gefa þannig hópi fólks tækifæri á nýju og betra lífi. Það er langt og flókið ferli að fá hæli á Íslandi og alls ekki öll þau sem hingað koma sem fá leyfi til þess að vera.
Það leyfi fengu þeir Everest og Ivan frá Úganda, Micho frá Lýðstjórnarlýðveldinu Kongó og Theobald frá Rúanda eftir margra ára vinnu og þriggja ára bið. Eru þeir nú að hefja nýtt líf hér hjá okkur í Hrísey. Leigja þeir herbergi með aðstöðu á Brekku núna í sumar og hefja störf hjá Hrísey seafood á næstu dögum. Þeir hafa hver sína sögu sem þeir velja sjálfir hvenær og hvort þeir deili með okkur þegar þeir kynnast okkur betur. Það er þó víst að það sem þeir hafa upplifað og gengið í gegnum getum við fæst ef nokkur gert okkur í hugalund. Það sem við getum gert er að bjóða þá velkomna, sýna þeim hvernig samfélagið í Hrísey getur staðið saman og verið til staðar fyrir þá eins og aðra nágranna okkar. Þeir hafa áhuga á að taka þátt í samfélaginu, kynnast okkur og lífinu í Hrísey svo að heilsa, stoppa og spjalla á förnum vegi er kærkomið.
Er þetta í fyrsta sinn sem Hríseyingar taka á mótti flóttafólki og eru þeir því að skrá sig á spjöld sögu Hríseyjar.
Akureyri signed an agreement to participate in the coordinated reception of refugees in 2023, and by so giving people a chance at a new and better life. It is a long and complicated process to get asylum in Iceland, and not all of those who come here get permission to stay.
Everest and Ivan from Uganda, Micho from D.R of Congo and Theobald from Rwanda received that permit after many years of work and three years of waiting. They are now starting a new life here with us in Hrísey. They are renting on Brekka this summer and start working in Hrísey seafood in the next few days. They each have their own story that they choose when and if they share with us as they get to know us. It is certain, however, that what they have experienced and gone through, we can not imagine. What we can do is welcome them, show them how the community in Hrísey can stand together and be there for them like our other neighbors. They want to participate in the community, get to know us and the life in Hrísey, so saying hello and stopping for a chat is very welcome.
Is this the first time that Hrísey have welcomed refugees so they are making Hrísey history.
